Up close

It's surprising how shallow a depth-of-field you can wring out of a run-of-the-mill 50mm lens if you get close enough to the subject.

We visited the botanical gardens outside San Miguel de Allende as it was rumored that it had a superior display of cacti. Well, it did, indeed, have an impressive assortment of them, including these little guys in pots.
