A ridgeline at dusk, on Howe Sound, British Columbia

A closer look

The ridge shown here is visible in the center of yesterday's image. Behold the power of the long zoom!

Speaking of which, I was greatly amused recently to learn that my telephoto zoom, the Canon EF 80-200mm f/2.8L, which has long been discontinued and that I bought used, has an official nickname. Apparently, it is affectionately known as the "magic drainpipe", on account of it being a relatively featureless black tube that looks vaguely like a hunk of PVC pipe.

It's also, apparently, a classic lens. I can definitely vouch for it; it produces fantastic results. If only it didn't weigh three pounds!
