A view of a cellblock in Alcatraz prison, San Francisco

Looking down the street

The long passages that run past the front of cells in Alcatraz have names, like "Broadway". I'm sure this "street" had a name, but I didn't write it down, so now I have no idea what it was.

The penned-in, overhead area straight ahead in this shot is the "gun gallery"; officers with rifles would keep an eye on the prisoners from the safety of this overhead cage; nobody down in the cellblock area would actually carry a gun, lest a prisoner get a hold of it.

Excellent! I must dig through my Alcatraz shots a bit more. I'm sure I looked over a few atmospheric shots like this one. Love the light on the bars at the end of the street. Superb!
