The old world
Every time I visit old European cities I am struck by subtle but pervasive differences. I'm not sure I could find a doorway anywhere in Seattle that looks quite like this. The construction practices and materials are different in Europe, which makes buildings decay in a different way, but they're also, frequently, just a lot older than anything you're likely to run into in North America.
