Rail car wheels on Harbor Island, Seattle

A return to Harbor Island

Over the weekend I made a trip back to Harbor Island with a good friend of mine and got a few reasonable shots. For some reason, I didn't come away with as much promising material as last time; I'm not sure why. For one thing, it was cold and windy and I spent less time shooting than I did last time. For another, we got harassed by some bizarro rent-a-cops in a beat-up car with front-end damage because we apparently set foot on a private road next to a refinery. This might have thrown me off my game.

Anyhow, here's the wheel of a rail car. You probably could have sorted that out for yourself. I was conflicted about whether to post the original color version or this black and white conversion. Those curious can see the original color version as well.

Some Googling reveals that the marking shown here means that this freight car has a 1 ½ inch-thick, high-friction, composition (not cast-iron) brake shoe. Evidently, this is important to know.
