Empty Ski Check (1)

An empty section of the ski check area, Stevens Pass, outside Seattle

Waiting for skis

Here's a section of the ski and package check outside the main lodge at Stevens Pass; I thought the regular geometry of the rack, punctuated with the colored claim tags, was striking.

Something happened to me while I was taking this picture and a few others of the ski check that I always find amusing: someone walked by, looked in the direction I was pointing my lens, looked back, looked away again, and finally asked me "what are you taking a picture of?". So I told them and they looked a little bemused.

The same thing happened to me while I was shooting this image at the Seattle Library; some woman could not believe I was bothering to take a picture of an escalator. Even after I explained to her that I liked the color and geometry of the scene, she walked away shaking her head.

Oh, well.

It happens to me all the time. If they get smart about it, I always ask if they'd like their picture taken. That usually does the trick.
