A night scene driving in Seattle

It's all downhill from here

This one, if I recall correctly, is while heading down Queen Anne hill towards Mercer. The lights in the distance likely include the crosswalk sign from yesterday's image.

I've seen lots of images on other photoblogs lately that use long shutter times in creative ways. I'm not just talking here about night shots of light trails. For example, one of my favorite Judith Polakoff images has a painterly look that comes from motion and falling-snow blur. John Washington posted an image recently that's stylistically motion-blurred from being hand-held with a slow shutter.

Maybe I'll try leaving that pesky shutter open more.

Shameless plug: the 2006 Bloggies are now in the nomination phase, through Tuesday afternoon only. You can nominate up to three blogs per category in several categories, including "best photography". If you end up being stuck for a third photoblog to nominate in the photography category, and felt the need to fill that space with something, just so as to not waste the opportunity, you could always enter "chromalark" for the name and "www.chromalark.com" as the URL, and I wouldn't be angry.
