A sea bird walking the beach outside Los Angeles, California

Just out for a stroll

This probably isn't the most artistically accomplished shot you've ever seen, but consider for a moment what I'm going for here: I liked the layered texture of the water and sand, with the sky glaringly reflected, but I included the bird in the shot to make it something other than a bizarro abstract shot. With the bird in the image, you can tell immediately that this is a beach, and that the stuff behind the bird is water, and that the stuff in front of it is sand. Without the bird, I think this shot would be even less interesting!

I continue to love my 35mm f/2 lens. This is a great choice for a crop-factor DSLR. Don't think this image was taken with that lens, though: this was taken before I even owned the 35mm, and I was unfortunately using the 20D's 18-55mm kit lens, which is not exactly top-notch. I keep telling myself I should sell it, but then I would have nothing in the way of a wide-angle lens, and I can't bring myself to drop the money on better-quality wide-angle glass.
