The Seattle Space Needle, decorated for the holidays

Happy New Year, Seattle!

I thought this was an appropriate image to post on this first day of 2006, since the light streaks here feel rather festive to me, and the Space Needle is shown decked out for the holidays (the triangular lights on the top are supposed to suggest a Christmas tree). At the dawn of the new year, fireworks are launched from the Needle, but I didn't manage to record that, as I was across town at a party.

This is one of many images that my wife snapped from our car when we were on our way back home a few evenings ago. I thought it would be interesting to record the night lights in Seattle with a long exposure, and it seemed prudent to not devote too much attention to this task while also driving! My wife got some very interesting images by aiming at various sorts of things as we drove past.
