A rail yard on Harbor Island, Seattle

A somewhat sinister scene

I processed this to try to convey the starkness of the scene, and somehow the image wound up a little more... forbidding than I had originally intended. I kind of like it, though, so I'm leaving it as-is.

The scene wasn't much more cheerful than this in person; since it was a Sunday, the area was abandoned and had a very urban-wasteland feel to it. I'm not actually sure what the purpose of this switching area is, since there weren't any cranes in evidence that could lift containers onto trailers for truck cabs like the one I posted an image of earlier. Maybe goods arrive at this yard by truck and are transferred by hand into empty, waiting rail containers?

the sky adds to the feel in the photo. seems somewhat desaturated....nice.
