A fin in the "fin project", Magnuson Park, Seattle

Surfacing?

This is one of the submarine fins that make up the "fin project", an art installation in Magnuson Park. This is also the last image I'm posting from my outing to the park a few weeks ago with my good friend John Thimsen.

The "fin project" consists of salvaged submarine fins anchored in the ground; there are a bunch of them in the installation, meant to "simulate the dorsal fins of a large Orca whale pod or a school of salmon". I must admit, I wasn't struck by the "pod" imagery in person; the fins are quite large, so I didn't immediately make the leap of seeing them as though they were dorsal fins of animals. The installation is quite relaxing to walk around, though, and the light was interesting as the sun went down.
