The lifeblood of Seattle
Seattleites love their coffee. I read a possibly apocryphal story that claimed that some scientists were doing a water-table study in Seattle but got some confusing results. Apparently, it's common to use very small quantities of caffeine to trace water movement, because it's (apparently) easy to detect in very low concentrations. Well, these scientists supposedly got all kinds of screwy results until they finally decided to measure the baseline level of caffeine in water around Seattle and found it to be vastly more elevated than they had been assuming.
Anyway, I took this picture a while ago on my way to Octoberfest in Fremont, aka the Center of the Universe.
I've been meaning to do a photo essay for years on the Espresso Shacks of Washington, but espresso has become so common now that it's no longer as novel as it used to be. Maybe I'll still get around to it sometime.
