Wall Bench 2

Detail of a wall-mounted bench near Pike Place Market, Seattle

A closer view of the curious contraption

This is a closer view of the wall bench shown in yesterday's posting.

One recurring criticism I have of my own work is that my framing is too "square". I tend to align horizontal and vertical lines in the composition with the edges of the frame, creating very static images. Here, there is just a little bit of movement in the sloping shadow, but mostly things are very static. Similarly with yesterday's image: there is some movement with the diagonal at the bottom of the frame, but otherwise things are very static.

I keep intending to experiment more with off-kilter framing, shooting at an angle to the subject, etc, to create more movement, but somehow I always fall into the rut of unimaginative framing. I blame my technical training.
