A view of Mount Shuksan, Washington

Caffe Vita show piece #7

Here is a different view of Mount Shuksan, still from the Mount Baker ski area in northern Washington.

I was at the Mount Baker ski area for its opening day yesterday, and I'm happy to report that conditions were terrific, although the place was mobbed. Last year, of course, was a historically bad ski season in the Northwest; this season is off to an early and promising start, though, with heavy recent snowfall.

Every year when the ski season starts up again I remember how much I love being out in the mountains in the winter. When it's gray and drizzly in Seattle, the best cure I know of is to head above the snowline to soak up the beautiful scenery and get some exercise. Happy Winter 2005-2006!
