A view of the Icefields Parkway, in Jasper / Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

Caffe Vita show piece #1

Starting today, I will be posting the images that are on show at the Queen Anne Caffe Vita coffeehouse in Seattle. Caffe Vita makes outstanding coffee, which gives you a good excuse to drop in and see the prints in person if you are in the Queen Anne neighborhood.

This image is of the Icefields Parkway, a road that runs through Jasper and Banff National Parks in Canada. My wife and I took a trip to the area last November, which is a somewhat unusual thing to do, since summer is the tourist season. In winter, as you can see, the roads are more challenging, and most of the tourist services are closed.

The trip turned out wonderfully, though -- better, even, than either of us was expecting. Being there in the off-season meant that it was much easier and cheaper to book accomodations, and the scenery was spectacular. I have never been to the area in the summer, but after having been there in the winter, I'm not sure I would want to return during any other season. The only real downsides are that the weather is bitterly cold, even in the early winter of November, and the days are very short.
