A view of the road to Jasper, Alberta, Canada

Caffe Vita show piece #4

This is the sister image to yesterday's post. It's a view back along the road to Jasper, over the small frozen lake by the side of the road.

This image was taken around the middle of the day, but as you can see, the sun was already very low in the sky. I suppose I shouldn't even say "already", since in the winter, the sun never gets very high in the sky to begin with. In a way, this wound up making the trip easier for photography: the sun would rise relatively late in the morning and set very early. In order to enjoy as much of the daylight as possible, my wife and I would routinely get up shortly before dawn and drive to scenic spots near where we were staying, and stay outdoors until the sun set in the afternoon. This meant I got a lot of opportunities to photograph during the "golden hour" at sunrise and sunset.
