Caffe Vita show piece #3
We passed this frozen lake on the drive to Jasper, Alberta. My wife was asleep in the car, but the lake looked so interesting that I pulled over and took several frames while she slept. At the spot that I pulled off the road, another photographer was already set up, with a tripod and what looked like a Canon L zoom; he was taking telephoto pictures of the snow-frosted trees on the nearby hills. He had a young family with him, and his wife was killing time playing in the snow with the kids while he took pictures. I wondered whether they had agreed on a photography-oriented trip, or whether he was just snatching moments to set up his gear and capture some of the landscape. I had a shorter lens mounted, and contented myself with wider-angle shots of the lake.
There is a technical flaw to this image that bothers me somewhat: I wish now that I had framed it slightly higher, so that the top of the tallest tree were visible in the frame. Other than that, I'm pleased with the starkness of the image.
