Seagulls over Whiffin Spit, Vancouver Island, at dusk

Another dusk image

Here is another frame taken not long before my previous posting from Whiffin Spit.

I chose my 80-200 lens when I went out for my dusk walk on the spit, and like everything in life, it wound up being a compromise. I wouldn't have been able to get the harbor shot without it (we were across the water from the houses), but I wished I could have framed many of the other shots I took from the spit wider than the lens would allow. This shot worked out for the better with the longer lens, though, as I wanted the seagulls to be a reasonable size in the final image, and they were some distance away.

When I'm in a creative mood, I find it stimulating to chose a single lens, even a prime lens, and go out with my camera to take pictures. Having only a single focal length available for a few hours means that after a while I start "seeing" only those images that I can frame with the lens I am carrying. This sometimes yields interesting results.
