Another image from the fire show

Taking these images really underscored the benefits of shooting digital. I wasn't sure what shutter speed would best capture the performers' movement, nor what the correct exposure would be, since the camera's meter was very jumpy when the fires were lit, and of course irrelevant when they weren't.

All it took was a few experimental exposures, though, to hone in on the right settings to blur the motion the way I wanted and capture the areas lit by the fire. Score one for immediate feedback!
