Surveying the neighborhood, Berkeley, CA

Before we get completely off the topic of pets...

I thought I would post this image. I took it a long(ish) time ago, in the summer of 1997, which I spent in Berkeley, CA. My then-girlfriend (now wife) and I rented a great apartment in the middle of everything from some business majors who were away for the summer. We spent a lot of lazy evenings wandering around the city and eating in the great restaurants in our neighborhood.

One sunny afternoon, I saw this guy hanging out his window, surveying the neighborhood. The effect was so striking and comical that I ran to get my camera before he decided there was nothing interesting to look at outside. I thought the power and phone cables made for an interesting framing effect, as well.

Update: This image was entered in the Photo Friday Challenge under the theme "Conspicuous".
