Washing the windows of a Seattle office tower

Another older film image, this time from downtown Seattle.

It was a bright sunny day when I took this picture, and everything was very contrasty. Taking pictures in bright sunlight is always a problem: often a sunny scene appears enjoyable and pleasant to our eye, but cameras have a lot of trouble with the extreme contrast in such images, and the results often don't look anything like what we remember seeing in person.

One solution to this, of course, is to take pictures of subjects that look good when rendered with high contrast. This scene was very striking in person because the sun reflecting off the office block created a harsh, super-contrasty scene that my film was able to capture without blowing out. My shiny new DSLR would have had a lot of trouble with this scene.
