A float depicting Seattle at the Gay Pride parade

Before the summer is completely over, I thought I would toss in some pictures I took the day of the Gay Pride parade in Seattle while I'm still on the topic of depicting the city.

Living on Capitol Hill, of course, means being exposed to its lively culture and subcultures. Capitol Hill is the epicenter of Seattle's gay community, and the Gay Pride parade is a major event each summer. Tons of people turn out to watch the floats progress down Broadway. This float seemed to depict Seattle itself; note the Space Needle!

I remember distinctly that I had taken just a 50mm prime with me that day, optimistic that the 85mm-equivalent focal length wouldn't be too long out on the street. The scene on Broadway was so jam-packed, though, that I had a lot of trouble being able to get any interesting images of the crowds of people. I felt like I had let down the photographic purist in myself by not having been able to choose the right prime focal length to use, and to not have been able to make do with a prime.
