Continuing my Seattle-images film-retrospective, here is an image of the deck of the Bainbridge Island ferry that sails out of downtown Seattle.
I'm often drawn to shadows and reflections of regular shapes, although a lot of my attempts to produce interesting images from them don't work. I feel like this one does, although there are plenty of images I've produced that I alone seem to think are interesting.
Like the previous image, this one was shot to 35mm film on an old Canon AE-1. For a number of years while living in Seattle, my workflow was to shoot 35mm film and scan the frames for manipulation on a PC. Scanning is slow and tedious work: after the scanning itself, each frame has to be touched up for dust and color-balanced before any actual work can begin. As a result, I was much less prolific in the period before I acquired a DSLR. On the other hand, it may have been the case that my "yield" -- the ratio of interesting images to total images -- was higher, since there was more cost and overhead associated with capturing each frame.
I definitely find myself drawn to the shadow. Well composed.
